Makes about 1 liter. No alcohol; suitable for all ages.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups ripe pineapple chunks
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1–2 tablespoons sugar, honey or to taste
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • Ice

Method

  1. Blend pineapple and half the water until smooth.
  2. Add the remaining water, sweetener and lime. Blend 10 seconds.
  3. Strain through a sieve if you like it clear. Serve over ice.

Variations: swap pineapple for mango, papaya or watermelon. In Costa Rica many refrescos are also made with milk (“con leche”).
